1. Notepad Interface
The Notepad interface is designed to be simple and clear. At the top, you will see menus like File, Edit, Format, and Help, and below it is a large blank area where kids can type their text freely. Knowing each menu helps you understand what actions you can perform, such as saving, editing, or formatting text.
Notepad vs WordPad
Both Notepad and WordPad are used to write text, but they are a little different:
- Notepad: A very simple program to write plain text. No fancy fonts, colors, or formatting. Perfect for quick notes or learning to type.
- WordPad: A bit more advanced. You can change font styles, sizes, colors, and even add simple pictures. Great for making letters or fun documents!
Think of Notepad as a plain sheet of paper, and WordPad as a paper where you can draw and decorate your text.

2. Typing Text
Typing is the most exciting part! You can write your thoughts, ideas, or simple sentences in Notepad. Donโt worry if you make mistakesโyou can always edit them easily. Typing regularly helps kids improve hand-eye coordination and learn keyboard basics.
Watch the video below to see how Anna types her first text and saves it in the "Home Work" folder:
Anna opens Notepad, types "Hello, my name is Anna. I like learning computers.", and saves it as practice.txt in the folder Home Work.
- Hello, my name is Anna.
- I like learning computers.
- Today I will write my first text in Notepad.
3. Saving a File
Saving your work is very important. It ensures that you donโt lose the sentences or stories you wrote. By practicing saving files in different folders, kids learn to organize their documents just like professional writers or students.
- Click the File > Save As menu
- Choose a destination folder
- Type a file name, for example practice.txt
- Click Save
4. Opening a File
Opening a file lets you continue your writing or check what you wrote before. This teaches kids how to manage digital files safely and efficiently, a skill they will use for school projects and creative writing.
- Click the File > Open menu
- Select the file you want to open
- Click Open
Additional visual materials will be practiced directly during class sessions, helping kids connect what they read with real typing experience.
