Computer Care
A computer is like a smart friend. If we take good care of it, it will work well and last a long time.
On this page, we will learn simple and safe ways to take care of a computer, especially for children who are learning at home or at school.
1. Daily Computer Care Habits
Start with good daily habits to prevent dirt, damage, and problems before they happen.
- Wash hands before using the computer
- Make sure your hands are clean and dry
- Do not eat or drink near the keyboard
- Use the computer gently, not roughly
- Shut down the computer properly after use
-
After shutting down:
- If using a notebook, close it and put it into a bag
- If using a desktop, cover it with a cloth or plastic cover
- If using a desktop, switch off the power socket or unplug the power cable for safety
2. Things Children Should NOT Do
Knowing what not to do helps keep the computer safe and working well.
- Do not hit the keyboard, mouse, or screen
- Do not touch live electrical cables or sockets
- Do not bend cables too sharply because they can break inside
- Do not move the computer while it is turned on without adult help
- Do not install or uninstall programs without adult permission
- Do not click random pop-up messages or unknown links
- Do not download files from unknown websites
3. Organizing Cables
Neat cables help keep the computer area safe and tidy.
- Keep cables neat so they do not get tangled
- Use cable ties to prevent tripping or pulling
- Use one power plug for one wall socket
- Do not overload the socket with too many extensions or power strips
4. Keeping Software Healthy
Taking care of software is an important part of computer care. Good software habits help the computer stay stable and safe.
- Update the operating system and applications only when needed or as recommended by a teacher or IT expert
- Use licensed (paid) or official software, not pirated applications
- Install only necessary applications needed for learning or working
- Remove unused or unnecessary programs to keep the system clean
- Use trusted antivirus software and keep it active
- Always backup important documents to a flash drive, external disk, or cloud storage
Children should ask a parent or teacher before installing or updating software.
5. Cleaning Computer Hardware
โ ๏ธ Cleaning is done only when needed and must be done safely.
- Make sure the computer power is OFF
- Unplug the power cable from the socket
After the computer is safe, you can start cleaning:
- Use a soft cloth to clean the monitor screen
- Use a small brush or blower to clean the keyboard and CPU
- Avoid spraying liquid directly onto the device
โ Simple Computer Care Checklist

- ๐ Cables are neat

- ๐ Software is updated
- ๐ Computer is used safely
Always ask a teacher or parent if something is not working. We use computers not only for learning, but also for practice, online lessons (e-learning), and simple work activities. A well-maintained computer helps children learn safely and comfortably.
At home, a computer is often used together with other devices such as printers, scanners, webcams, cameras, speakers, or tools for online meetings. In this lesson, we focus only on basic computer care (CPU or system unit, monitor, keyboard, and mouse). If the computer or other devices have problems, do not try to fix them by yourself. Please ask a parent, teacher, or contact an authorized service center.
